    Seville was formerly an Iberian town. It flourished underneath the Romans from the 2nd century BCE onward as Hispalis, and was an administrative hub of the province of Baetica. The Silingi Vandals caused it to be the seat of the kingdom early in the 5th century ce, however in 461 it passed below Visigothic rule.
